Summer Watering

Summer’s here… well, a British summer at least, and now restrictions have eased somewhat, many of us will be thinking of holidays, but whilst they may well be the best thing for us, they’re not necessarily the best thing for our gardens.

If you’re lucky enough to have a wonderful neighbour, who’ll tend to your garden as lovingly as you do, please share them with us, they’re priceless! If not, there’s a whole array of systems designed to give you peace of mind, and we’ve looked at the best ones…

If you’re headed into the city for a couple of nights’ stay or you’ve found the perfect countryside retreat with a hot-tub and pool, then Worth Gardening’s ‘Little Drippers’ is the easiest solution for your prized petunias. Attached to the neck of a modified soft drinks bottle (not included), they deliver a measured amount of water to your pots, and at just £5.60 for 4 adjustable cones, they’ll allow a little more cash for an extra indulgence whilst you’re away from home.

A week’s holiday may require a little more water, and whilst there’s every chance the rain may assist – this is Britain, after all – the Garland’s ‘Big Drippa’ will take care of your tomatoes or geraniums for a few more days should the weather not play ball, and it won’t break the holiday-bank either. Just £15.75 for a 10.5l reservoir, 5m of tubing and 6 adjustable drippers, and your pots will look as good as you do when you return.

If you manage to get away for a good couple of weeks, however, you’re going to need a bit more help, and Hozelock have all you could possibly want. Their Automatic Watering System is designed for longer stays, but also for gardens of all shapes and sizes. A battery powered water controller attaches directly to your garden tap, and with the help of a pressure regulator, guides the water through a network of flexible pipes that feed the drippers, and whilst it may sound fairly standard, the beauty lies in the huge selection of connectors, pipes, drippers and jets that are sold individually – a pick ‘n’ mix, if you will – so the whole system can be designed specifically for you, or more precisely, your garden. With many companies providing parts that fit with Hozelock, you could find you already have some of what’s required.

So, if you’re unsure whether your Oriental Poppies need more water than your Sweet Williams or your Crocosmia can survive a little longer without water than your Cosmos, not only do we have the equipment you need to ensure all look stunning, we have the expertise to help you design your own watering system and keep your whole garden looking beautiful.
